NREL Guam100

MR&D is a core research partner in Guam100: Guam’s 100% Renewable Energy Future, an initiative led by the Guam Power Authority (GPA) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Funded by the U.S. Department of Insular Office of Insular Affairs (OIA), this project aims to chart Guam’s transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045.

MR&D’s role focuses on conducting focus groups, stakeholder engagement, surveys, and comprehensive data analysis to gather critical input from Guam’s residents, businesses, and community leaders. This feedback informs NREL’s modeling and analysis of renewable energy scenarios that prioritize affordability, reliability, resilience, and equity.

Guam100 addresses challenges such as the territory’s reliance on imported fossil fuels, aging infrastructure, and climate impacts while exploring solutions for integrating renewable energy technologies like solar and battery storage. MR&D’s work ensures diverse community perspectives are incorporated into the strategy, aligning technical solutions with local priorities and fostering inclusion energy transition.
