Background
MR&D was subcontracted by Lynker for a project with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, where they assisted in coordinating public hearings for a Critical Habitat Conference.
The MR&D Approach
Their role involved organizing and managing these hearings to ensure effective public engagement and input regarding the critical habitat designations. This included logistical support and facilitating the discussion to gather stakeholder feedback on NOAA Fisheries’ conservation efforts.
Additionally, MR&D coordinated with the Guam Daily Post to publish an advertisement promoting NOAA Fisheries’ public hearing which is scheduled for September 17th. It will be held at the Pacific Islands Club and include an informational meeting at 6:00 PM, followed by a public hearing at 7:00 PM where attendees can comment. The ad highlights NOAA Fisheries’ proposal to list five species of giant clams as endangered and five species as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
The Outcome
MR&D played a key role in ensuring that the public is well-informed and encouraged to participate in the event, which will address the potential impact of the proposed listing on the local community.
Also, a public listening session will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on the same day, offering another platform for the community to engage with NOAA Fisheries and share their perspectives.
